All the rugs are hand knotted in the foothills of the Himalayas overlooking the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal.
The weaving technique is Tibetan and as there was no indigenous weaving tradition in Nepal this was imported when the Chinese invaded Tibet in the late 1950’s. Every element of the manufacture of a rug is done by hand; from the draughtsmen to the carding, weaving, washing and hand finishing.
General lead times for a standard size of rug will vary depending on the season but should be approximately 12 to 14 weeks. This can increase during monsoon when the rugs take longer to dry or in the months of October and November when it is the Nepalese national holiday.
Note: no child labour is used in the manufacture of any of our rugs. In fact we donate a sum from every square metre ordered towards an educational fund for the children of the weavers. This is undertaken by us and not passed on to the client as we feel we have a responsibility to the well being of the weavers and our clients may well have other causes they would prefer to donate money to.
